AUTOSPEED
*********
Preface
-------
The Feelthere ERJ 145 is a perfect plane for manual flying. Speeds are held
very stable, but MSFS weather functions often create speed jumps.
AUTOSPEED is an auxiliary function to facilitate flying the ERJ at en-route
levels with constant speed especially in windy weather. This function is not
implemented in the real ERJ. If you want to fly as real as it gets, do not
select this function.
AUTOSPEED is not an autothrottle. It can hold the current airspeed at the time
of selection if this speed is CONSTANT. I.e. you must fly manually towards the
target speed by adjusting the thrust levers before you select AUTOSPEED.
AUTOSPEED is not designed to be used together with any climb or descent mode
of the ERJ autopilot. Only select AUTOSPEED in level flight and when the autopilot
annunciator shows ALT.

Operation
---------
The AUTOSPEED button is located in the checklist panel.
To arm AUTOSPEED fly a constant target speed, then press the SPD
button.
The SPD button will become yellow to indicate that AUTOSPEED is
armed. The selected target speed will be shown in the button.
The interrogation interval of FSUIPC will be automatically adjusted to
1 per second.
On the next interrogation, i.e. 1 sec after arming, AUTOSPEED will
become active. The SPD button will change to green color.
AUTOSPEED will control the airspeed at the time of activation (the target speed)
by adjusting both thrust levers according to a deviation from the target speed.
The default adjustment is ca. -0.1%N1 per 1 kt. This factor can be changed (see
at the end of this document)
Depending on flying conditions the target speed may not be reached exactly but
there may be an oscillation (max +- 3 kts observed). If oscillation becomes
unacceptable reduce the adjustment factor.
AUTOSPEED may be deactivated by
- pressing the SPD button again (color will become gray)
- manually moving the thrust levers and thereby N1 by more than 10%
AUTOSPEED will be deactivated automatically
- when actual speed differs more than 10 kts from target speed
When AUTOSPEED is deactivated an aural announcement "AUTOSPEED" can be
heard and the SPD button will become gray.

AUTOREVERSE

AUTOREVERSE is an auxiliary function to facilitate landing the ERJ.
This function is not implemented in the real ERJ.
If you want to fly as real as it gets, do not select this function.
AUTOREVERSE once armed deploys the reversers on touchdown and applies full
thrust to slow down the aircraft.
AUTORESERVE is deactivated automatically after reversers are deployed.

Activation
----------
AUTOREVERSE will become activated and reversers become deployed at maximum
reverse thrust whenever
- REV mode is armed (yellow button color) and
- aircraft is on the ground (signalled by gear switch) and
- IAS is greater than 100 kts

Deactivation
------------
- AUTOREVERSE will become disengaged after activation of reversers, however
reversers will remain in their deployed position. (To disengage reversers
move thrust levers forward.)
- push REV button while armed (yellow button color) and armed mode will
be deactivated

Recommended Landing Technique
-----------------------------
- When crossing threshold at normal height (50-70 ft) pull thrust levers to aft
firewall (idle) and touchdown
- Wait and check for reversers become deployed and reverse thrust applied.
- Observe a normal decrease in air speed and control aircraft
track on runway centerline.
- When passing 80 kts IAS apply manual brake and move thrust levers forward
to disengage reversers and return to idle thrust
- Continue manual braking until taxi speed is achieved and leave runway
at next intersection.

Warning
-------
When armed on the ground AUTOREVERSE may activate the thrust reversers
on take-off run when IAS > 100 kts. Be sure that AUTOREVERSE is disengaged
gray button color) before commencing take-off run. Unintended activation
of thrust reversers during take-off run is a major hazard to your flight.

Change of AUTOSPEED amplification factor
****************************************
- When SPD is armed for the first time a file AUTOSPEED.INI is created in the
FPS folder.
- This file contains one single integer number in the first line.
- This number represents an amplification control factor between deviation
from target speed and N1/thrust lever  setting.
- The initial factor value is 100 and represents a factor of ca. 0.1%N1 per
1 kts deviation of speed from target speed.
- If AUTOSPEED is unable to control the speed and oscillations occur the factor
should be changed as follows:
 * very slow but significant oscillations: make the factor greater, e.g. 110
 * fast oscillations: make the factor smaller, e.g. 90
- A slow oscillation of +- 3 kts in windy weather should be considered as normal.
Anything more precise is beyond the capabilities of AUTOSPEED in conjunction
with FSUIPC and a 1 second interrogation interval
- Do not enter anything else into AUTOSPEED.INI but this single integer number.
- No decimal points, no letters, no spaces, no other special characters
- AUTOSPEED.INI is loaded everytime you arm AUTOSPEED mode.
- To edit and test a specific amplification factor:
 * open AUTOSPEED.INI with a text editor like Notepad
 * edit the factor
 * save AUTOSPEED.INI
 * disengage AUTOSPEED and control thrust manually
 * arm AUTOSPEED
 * observe AUTOSPEED performance
